Lockwood West Coast operators, Craig and Greg Mooney were contracted to build a custom designed holiday home for CCS Disability Action.
This plan received a 5 Star Lifemark rating. This means it ticks all the boxes for Lifemark Accreditation, so it is safe and easy to live in, for people of all ages and abilities.
Craig Mooney says Awhi, which means support, was designed by co-director Greg Mooney, who has first-hand experience of living with a wheelchair. “The house has four bedrooms and three bathrooms, and every part is wheelchair accessible. For example, the light switches are at the right height and there is space beneath the kitchen benchtop to make it easy for wheelchair users to prepare meals. Awhi has been open for five years and it has been virtually maintenance free, despite constant use by people with walkers and wheelchairs.”
The project was made possible by a donation of the land and by heavily subsidised labour and materials from numerous local subcontractors.
