The Lockwood North Shore team were commissioned to build a function centre at the West Lynn Garden and Butterfly House. The 2.5 hectares of garden, paths, gazebos, picnic areas, mature trees and Monarch Butterfly House are run by the West Lynn Garden Society members, a team of volunteers committed to the creation and maintenance of this unique environment. A fundraising effort meant it was possible to build a function room on the site, allowing the society to host events and continue to grow and maintain the gardens. The clients brief was for a Function Centre suitable for weddings, seminars and group/club activities which had to be sited on the footprint (more or less) of the old building.
The client is delighted with the Lockwood design and construction – it is perfect in the garden environment and the low maintenance aspect is vital as it is run by volunteers. The building has a community education room, a meeting room, a kitchen, an office, good storage, male/female/disabled toilet facilities, expansive decking with outlook to the garden.
The venue seats 80 comfortably but could cope with 100 because of the large undercover decking. It has an extensive audio visual set-up with four ceiling mounted speakers and wireless dual microphone system. Both function rooms are completed with heat pumps, wi-fi and café style tables and seating.
